Urdu News Privacy Policy

Last updated:

The short version

  • You can read every article without an account.
  • If you sign in (Google or Apple), we store your name, email, profile photo and a user ID so you can comment, react and save favourites.
  • The app uses Google services (Firebase and AdMob) for sign-in, notifications, analytics, crash reports and ads.
  • We do not sell your personal information.
  • You can delete your account in the app at any time, or email info@shababe.com.

1. Who we are

This policy explains how the Urdu News mobile app for Android and iOS (the "app") collects, uses and shares information. The app is published by Shababe Developers ("we", "us"). If you have any question about this policy or your data, contact us at info@shababe.com.

2. Information we collect

Account information (only if you sign in)

Signing in is optional. When you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name, email address and profile photo and a unique user ID through Firebase Authentication. If you use Apple's "Hide My Email", we receive a relay address instead of your real email.

Content you create

If you are signed in, we store your comments and replies, reactions to stories, saved favourite articles, and the reports and blocks you make. These are kept on our servers together with your user ID. Comments are public: other users can see them together with your display name and profile photo.

Device and usage information

  • Analytics (Firebase Analytics): how the app is used, such as screens viewed and features used, app version, device model, operating system, language and approximate country.
  • Crash reports (Firebase Crashlytics): technical details about crashes and errors, so we can fix them.
  • Notifications (Firebase Cloud Messaging): a device token and the notification topics you are subscribed to, used to send you breaking-news alerts and replies to stories you have commented on.
  • App configuration (Firebase Remote Config): an app-instance identifier used to deliver settings and updates to the app.

Advertising information

The app shows ads served by Google AdMob. AdMob may collect your device's advertising identifier (Android Advertising ID, or Apple's IDFA only if you allow tracking when iOS asks), IP address, device information and how you interact with ads. Where the law requires it, for example in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, the app asks for your consent before showing personalised ads.

Information stored only on your device

Your settings (such as theme, text size and selected section) and recently loaded articles are saved on your phone so the app opens quickly. This information is not sent to us.

3. How we use information

  • To provide the app's features: sign-in, comments, reactions, favourites and notifications.
  • To keep the community safe: reviewing reports, and enforcing blocks and our rules on comments.
  • To understand usage and fix crashes, so that we can improve the app.
  • To show ads, which keep the app free.
  • To respond when you contact us.

4. How information is shared

  • With other users: your comments, display name and profile photo are visible to other users of the app.
  • With service providers: Google (Firebase and AdMob) processes data on our behalf, or as an independent controller for advertising, under its own terms. See Google's policy at How Google uses information from apps that use its services.
  • For legal reasons: when the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of our users or others.

We do not sell your personal information.

5. Third-party services used by the app

  • Firebase Authentication, Analytics, Crashlytics, Cloud Messaging, Remote Config and Cloud Firestore (Google LLC)
  • Google AdMob (Google LLC)
  • Sign in with Google (Google LLC) and Sign in with Apple (Apple Inc.)

6. How long we keep information

We keep your account information and content for as long as your account exists. Analytics and crash data are kept according to Google's retention settings for those services. Content that someone has reported may be kept for longer, but only for as long as we need to review the report.

7. Deleting your account and data

In the app: open Profile and tap Delete account. This permanently deletes your sign-in account.

By email: to have all of your data removed, including your comments, reactions and saved favourites, email info@shababe.com from the email address linked to your account, with the subject "Delete my data". We will complete the request within 30 days.

You can also reset or limit your advertising identifier at any time in your phone's settings.

8. News publishers

Urdu News shows headlines and articles from independent news publishers. To load them, the app requests content from those publishers' servers (or from our server, which collects it from them), so the publishers may receive your device's IP address and standard technical information, as with any website. Their own privacy policies apply to their sites. We do not control, and are not responsible for, publishers' content or practices.

9. Children

The app is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

10. Security

Data is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS) and stored with access controls. No system is completely secure, but we work to protect your information.

11. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your personal data, and to object to or restrict how it is processed. To use any of these rights, email info@shababe.com. Your data may be processed on Google's servers in countries other than your own.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. If the changes are significant, we will also tell you in the app.
